Roy Keane believes that Pep Guardiola would be the ideal candidate to take over as England manager. With Lee Carsley currently leading the squad on an interim basis, Keane emphasized the need for a world-class manager if England is to compete for the biggest trophies.
England has failed to secure a major tournament win under Gareth Southgate, despite having a talented squad. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Keane said, “Get Pep, get the best. Pep’s contract [with Manchester City] expires in the summer. The FA [Football Association] has to choose the best manager.”
Keane also noted the potential financial considerations, but stressed that the FA needs to act quickly if Carsley is not interested in the full-time role.
Whether Guardiola would entertain the idea of managing England after his Manchester City contract ends remains to be seen.
